I was having a down day for whatever reason, and I saw that I had gotten a package I had ordered from comic artist/musician Genevieve Castree.
I had imagined that some person at some warehouse or random backroom filled the order, and shoved it in a box for mailing. When I opened it, not expecting anything but the items I ordered and maybe a catalog of more things to buy, I was surprised to find extra treats from pins to postcards. The seal of greatness was a personalized handwritten thank you from Genevieve which made me feel like I was 10 years old being initiated into the Smurf Club all over again. Yes, THAT giddy. I spent a solid 14.5 minutes smiling and surveying everything from how she dotted her “i” to how she took the time to make sure the package represented her.
I don’t like to worship people because by and large they can never maintain the pedestal pose for long. They’re human. They’ll be flawed, or they might not live up to who you had hoped they would be. (i.e. assholes) I am going to Autoptic this year strictly because I saw that five artists would be present whose work I love. One of them is Genevieve, and I really hope she’s not an asshole. I also hope I don’t blankly stare at her solidifying myself as a creepy dolt.
